sh-Pentapeptide-1 (former designation: Pentapeptide-1) is a synthetic recombinant peptide derived from thymopoietin, a human hormone with immunomodulating properties. Its sequence Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr corresponds to the active part of the protein, the 32-36 range of the amino acid chain.
Known under the trade name Sintomodulina, sh-Pentapeptide-1 is used for the topical treatment of atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and chronic skin infections. Incorporated into skin care preparations, it showed promising results for sensitive skin and effectively fights irritation.
Recent studies have shown that sh-Pentapeptide-1 may also be helpful in the treatment of psoriasis. It is useful for regulating skin microflora, reducing inflammation (by reducing IL-17), and controlling the proportions of helper T-cells.
