INCI name
Acetyl Sh-Pentapeptide-1

Acetyl sh-Pentapeptide-1 (former Acetyl Pentapeptide-1 with the sequence Ac-Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr-OH) is an acetylated and stable derivative of sh-Pentapeptide-1, a Thymopoietin peptide that mimics immunomodulatory protein action. It fights against irritation, soothes sensitive skin, and enhances the skin's natural defense mechanisms against infections.

Suppressing interleukins, particularly IL-8, Acetyl sh-Pentapeptide-1 lessens metalloproteinases (MMPs; especially MMP-9) release and the destruction of skin's structural proteins (including collagen and elastin). MMP-9 is an enzyme responsible for Collagen type IV destruction, which is the crucial component of basement membranes.

Incorporated in skin care applications, Acetyl sh-Pentapeptide-1 acts as a multifunctional ingredient that soothes irritated skin while preventing the breakdown of structural proteins, exposing a firmer, calmer, and youthful appearance.
