Hexapeptide-9

Hexapeptide-9 is a synthetic matrikine peptide that repeats a part of collagen (sequence: Gly-Pro-Gln-Gly-Pro-Gln) that stimulates fibroblasts to boost collagen and hyaluronic acid production. It improves dermal firmness and elasticity while enhancing the skin's water retention.

The action mechanism is similar to natural processes, in which collagen fragments stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen. Counterbalancing a part of the aging process, Hexapeptide-9 noticeably reduces the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, revealing a younger, smoother, and healthier appearance.

Manufacturer's clinical studies showed that Hexapeptide-9 increases overall collagen production by up to 117%, particularly collagen IV by up to 357%. In addition, it enhances hyaluronic acid production by up to 267%.

In a pictorial comparative analysis, Hexapeptide-9 reduces the deep wrinkled surface area by a mean of 68%. The reduction in moderate wrinkles was 51% on average.

It is a stable, safe, and effective ingredient for anti-aging applications against wrinkles, forehead lines, and crow's feet.

A novel study with a cyclic version of Hexapeptide-9, called Cyclohexapeptide‐9 or CHP‐9 (non-nomenclature name), in which the N- and C-termini are connected by a peptidic bond, showed a significant anti-aging effect, with better results than retinol. According to researchers, the cyclic Hexapeptide-9 is safe and has potential for use in anti-aging skincare applications.

Another study combining Hexapeptide-9 with a GABA and lactic acid mixture (researchers called it GALA) showed increased penetration rates, cumulative permeation, and retention in the skin. According to researchers, it enhances the efficacy, safety, and anti-aging effects, suggesting the mixture for clinical use and new skincare products.
