sh-Polypeptide-8 is a synthetic single-chain recombinant analog of human PDGF (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor) that is involved in normal skin growth, healing, and wound repair. rh-PDGF mimics the biological activity of the endogenous protein and is the active ingredient in several FDA-approved products. One of the FDA-registered products is used in medical aesthetics. It contains rh-PDGF and is used more extensively for skin rejuvenation and scar reduction.

Clinical studies showed that sh-Polypeptide-8 enhances rates of healing, reduces TNF-α and its induced inflammation, and decreases activity of MMP2 and MMP9 enzymes, responsible for breaking down extracellular matrix proteins. Like similar growth factors in skin care applications, it also boosts the production of collagen and elastin, improving skin firmness and elasticity. It reduces and prevents lines and wrinkles by actively generating new skin cells.

sh-Polypeptide-8 is a safe and effective ingredient used in many anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, and wound healing preparations for skin and body care. Safety tests showed that it is safe, with no increased risk of cancer development, a crucial factor in the case of growth factors and their mimetic analogs.
