INCI name
Glyceryl Ascorbate

Glyceryl Ascorbate is a vitamin C derivative produced by binding glycerin to ascorbic acid. It exhibits high stability aqueous solutions and cosmetic formulations, providing same physiological activity as widely used vitamin C derivatives with additional benefits like moisturizing action and expectional sensory texture, making it one of the best vitamin C derivatives for professional cosmetics.

Derivatization with glycerin enhances the stability of vitamin C against oxidation, making Glyceryl Ascorbate convenient ingredient for incorporation of complex formulations. Its moisturizing and skin whitening ability proved by in vivo continuous testing.

Scientific studies using B16 menanoma cells showed that a preparations containing Glyceryl Ascorbate noticeably reduces menanin production. Thanks to free hydooxyl groups (in Gliceryl group), it attracts water molecules, leaving a humenescant effect.

Glyceryl Ascorbate enables the development of excellent formulations with a moist, comfortable sensory texture, without the unpleasant frictional feel typically associated with vitamin C. It also allows transparent gel formulations containing vitamin C derivatives.

Unlike vitamin C and its traditional derivatives, Glyceryl Ascorbate is non-ionic, making it suitable for use in gels and emulsions, where it is challenging to blend ionic compounds. This property enables the development of various types of cosmetic formulations.

A verification experiment was conducted to assess the sensory texture of Glyceryl Ascorbate using skin toners. Ten panelists evaluated the sensory texture of skin treated by skin toners with 10% of this ingredient or a popular Vitamin C derivative. They gave 2 points to a better evaluation item or 1 point to each item when they felt the same sensory texture.

Simplified explanation

Glyceryl Ascorbate is a special form of vitamin C made from glycerin and ascorbic acid. It's more stable than regular vitamin C, so it works better in creams and lotions. It helps keep skin moist and feels smooth when applied. Unlike regular vitamin C, Glyceryl Ascorbate mixes well in gels and lotions without causing problems.

Scientists tested it and found that it can brighten the skin. In one test, people tried skin toners with Glyceryl Ascorbate and another type of vitamin C. Most reported that the Glyceryl Ascorbate made their skin feel better.
