Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate

Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate is a water-soluble vitamin C derivative produced by conjugating ascorbic acid with glycerin. The derivatization of the fragile vitamin C with glycerin improves its stability against oxidation, so it is now possible to formulate it into emulsions and transparent gels.

Thanks to its nonionic nature, Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate has higher permeability and enhanced stability compared to other ascorbic acid derivatives. Like other derivatives, it also exhibits an inhibitory effect on melanin production and a moisturizing effect, making it suitable for incorporation into aging-care applications.

Bis-glyceryl Ascorbate provides additional benefits, such as free radical scavenging, enhancing action on collagen production, oil-in-water emulsifying ability, and antibacterial properties. It is used in toners, gel serums, and emulsions such as skin creams, thus allowing it to be used in a wide range of formulations and dosage forms.

The comparative tests showed that Bis-glyceryl Ascorbate has the highest effects on keratinocytes among other vitamin C derivatives, including Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate. It provides a higher cellular translocation and environmental stability. In addition, several reports concern the anti-inflammatory action of ascorbic acid derivatives in healthy or damaged skin, particularly on keratinocytes.
