Demand for plumper lips is a growing phenomenon as women, who have naturally fine lips, wish to give them more sensuality. Furthermore, with age, women try to retrieve attractive lips, which have lost their contour and definition because of dryness, loss in volume and ptosis and decreased derma density.

For this reason, Sederma has now developed VOLULIP™, an active substance containing a plant Portulaca “ Kiss-me- quick” extract, associated with a natural modified matrikine-mimetic peptide, whose main activity is to stimulate hyaluronic acid synthesis.  To demonstrate the product efficacy and its mechanism of action, several in vitro tests have been carried out following three axes, stimulation of dermal matrix molecules (collagen 1, collagen 3, fibronectin, HSP47), reinforcement of DEJ molecules (collagen 4, laminin 5), improvement of the hydric sphere (hyaluronic acid, aquaporin 3).

Sederma also conducted two clinical studies to prove VOLULIP™ efficacy on youth, hydration, and lip volume.  The first one involved 29 panelists with a twice-daily balm application containing 1% VOLULIP™ for a month. In addition, it associated several complementary methods such as Aeroflexmeter® (device developed and patented by Sederma allows characterizing skin mechanical properties without any contact, thanks to a compressed air jet), fringe projections (FOITS), and MoistureMeter-D.

The second one was carried out on a total of 21 panelists to measure re-densification with an ultrasonor echograph.

The results are very significant. We observed a gain of +13.3% of firmness, +50.6% of hydration, +10.5% of softness,  +15.1% of volume, +9.2% of curvature (radius of curvature of the lower lip), and an increase of +19.6% of the surface of the central area of the lower lip for volunteers with wonderful lips.

How effective is VOLULIP™?

Sederma conducted two clinical studies to demonstrate the efficacy of VOLULIP™ on youth, hydration, and lip volume.

The first one involved 29 panelists who applied a twice-daily balm containing 1% VOLULIP™ for a month. It associated several complementary methods, such as Aeroflexmeter® (a device developed and patented by Sederma that allows characterization of skin mechanical properties without contact, using a compressed-air jet), fringe projections (FOITS), and MoistureMeter-D.

The results are very significant. We observed a gain of +13.3% of firmness, +50.6% of hydration, +10.5% of softness, +15.1% of volume, +9.2% of curvature (radius of curvature of the lower lip), and an increase of +19.6% of the surface of the central area of the lower lip for volunteers with excellent lips.
