Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) has a long history of medicinal use. High in Vitamin A, It was used to treat eye disorders, excess weight, bleeding gums, arthritis, rheumatism, atherosclerosis, kidney and liver disorders, and internal swelling.

Bruised leaves, leaf compresses, and the juice from the leaves have been used in traditional medicine to treat skin blemishes, spots, boils, warts, blotches, and acne. Watercress has also been used in ethnic medicine to increase hair growth, as a tonic, and to treat hair loss.

Nasturtium Officinale Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract is a light to medium yellow liquid with a characteristic odor. It contains essential oil (up to 0.066%), glucosinolates (2-phenylethylglucosinolate, 7- methylthioeptilglucosinolate, 8-methylthioottilglucosinolate)  and flavonoids. In addition, it is rich in mineral salts with iodine, iron, calcium, and phosphorus; it contains sugars, carotenoids, triglycerides, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, E, and PP.

Nasturtium Officinale Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract is considered an excellent wash for acne, blemishes, and freckles due to its sebum-regulating, antiseptic, and purifying properties. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-eczema effects that are beneficial in products for problematic skin.
