Botanical

Abyssinian Oil is derived from the seeds of the East African Crambe Abyssinica plant, which contain about 30% oil. It is rich in omega fatty acids, especially Erucic acid (cis-13-docosenoic acid), which provides unique properties useful in skin care applications. In some gene-modified Crambe abyssinica industrial spices, the targeted production of Erucic acid can be increased to up to 73% of wild-type (50-60%).

Besides Erucic acid, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil is rich in Oleic and Linoleic unsaturated fatty acids. It contains high levels of polyphenols and fat-soluble vitamins, including β-sitosterol, campestanol, brassicasterol, and α-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols. Thanks to its composition, Abyssinian Oil possesses noticeable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and protective properties for topical preparations.

Incorporated into skin care applications, Crambe oil moisturizes, supports skin barrier regeneration, reduces water evaporation from the skin, improves surface structure, and makes skin feel velvety-soft. In addition, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil reduces oedema and soothes irritated skin. It significantly improves the skin surface structure and the evenness of skin tone.

In hair care products, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil is used in leave-on formulations such as hair oils. It nourishes and protects the scalp and hair, providing shine and a healthy appearance, without weighing hair down.
