INCI nameGlyceryl Caprylate
Glyceryl Caprylate is a monoglyceride, a monoester of caprylic acid with glycerin. Monoglycerides exhibit antimicrobial properties and are widely used as preservative busters in personal care formulations, providing additional benefits.
EcoCertified Glyceryl Caprylate is vegetable origin, non-petrochemical; natural fatty acids from pure, renewable resources provide broad-spectrum protection against bacteria, yeast, and mold. It also exhibits natural emollient properties and provides additional refatting and moisturization.
Studies have shown that the antimicrobial efficacy of glyceryl caprylate depends on the formulation pH; under acidic conditions, it is more active against mold and bacteria, suggesting it as a potential acne treatment and preservative for cosmetic applications.
Glyceryl Monocaprylate has also been tested as a premiation enhancer for pharmaceutical and cosmetic active ingredients and has shown promising results, improving absorption and penetration rates. It is a safe and effective ingredient for topical personal care applications; however, there are reports of skin sensitization and allergic reactions with subclinical manifestations.
