Dimethiconol is a high-viscosity, hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane. It is a clear, water-white, viscous liquid without odor, soluble in isopropyl myristate. It is insoluble in mineral oil, propylene glycol, ethanol, and water.

The high viscosity of Dimethiconol and hydroxyl functionality provide substantive gloss and conditioning to hair from 2:1 shampoo formulations.

In skincare and AP/DO products, Dimethiconol can reduce tack, provide a water barrier, and provide a smooth, non-sticky, non-oily emolliency.
