Lipogard is a vitamin complex that has a high content of ubiquinone 50 (coenzyme Q 10) mixed with vitamin E acetate (dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) and is dissolved in plant-derived squalane. The ubiquinone in Lipogard is part of the inner mitochondrial membrane, the power station of the cell.
Ubiquinone is involved in electron transport in the respiratory chain, i.e., in the reduction of nicotine adenine dinucleotide (NADH) via the cytochrome system, as well as in the oxidation of succinate and in the formation of the energy-storing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the citric acid cycle.
Lipogard supports the natural defense mechanism against the damaging effects of free radicals, particularly lipid peroxidation in the skin. It is a valuable ingredient for skin and sun care applications.
