Octapeptide-30

Functions
Chelating agent
INCI name
Octapeptide-30

Octapeptide‑30 (known as Octa-His) is a synthetic peptide composed of eight histidine units. In biotechnology, this sequence (His‑His‑His‑His‑His‑His‑His‑His) is known as the His8‑tag, used to purify recombinant proteins and peptides through immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) method. The histidine imidazyl group binds divalent metal ions such as Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, or Cu2+, enabling efficient peptide isolation from lysates.

Octa-His has a strong affinity for bivalent metal ions, similar to chelating agents; however, it has no practical use in personal care products. When its corresponding gene is fused to a recombinant peptide gene, its sequence enables efficient purification after production, which is a purely technical advantage. It also explains the presence of its sequence in Nicotiana Benthamiana Octapeptide-30 sh-Oligopeptide-2.

F.A.Q.

Is there a product with Octapeptide‑30?

No.

It is a biotechnological tag, similar to Hexapeptide-40, rather than a cosmetic active.

If you found a website that describes Octapeptide‑30 as a "Skin conditioner", claims other beneficial properties, or states that it is often used in skincare formulations. None of this is true. You've found a classic example of a generated website. Just report that misleading webpage in the search engine of the AI chat that suggested a link to that content.
