Triclocarban (TCC) is an antimicrobial agent with wide activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It is particularly suitable for application in deodorant soaps and other products such as sticks, roll-ons, creams, and lotions when antibacterial activity is required.

An increasing number of bar and liquid soaps for household and institutional use contain bacteriostatic agents. These products prevent the proliferation of resident and transient skin flora, particularly dangerous staphylococci. Besides acting on perspiration to give unpleasant odors, such bacteria are a common cause of skin diseases.

Triclocarban has been a preferred product for antimicrobial bar soap and medicated cleansing products for almost 50 years. TCC has also been used occasionally as an antimicrobial active ingredient in liquid soaps.
