Tricaprylin (also known as glycerol tricaprylate; its former designation was Tricaprylate) is a triglyceride ester of caprylic acid and glycerine. Refined and deodorized, it is a clear, bland-smelling liquid that is miscible with most organic solvents, including pure ethanol.
Tricaprylin has excellent stability, low irritation, and a bland taste and odor. It is used in pharmaceuticals, perfume, and personal care products as an emollient, solubilizer, and carrier. It appears in lotions, creams, and decorative cosmetics.
In advanced complexes, Tricaprylin is used as a liposome-forming agent that encapsulates unstable substances, such as Vitamin C, improving the ingredient's penetration, permeability, and stability for topical application.
