Calcium Silicate

Calcium silicate is an inorganic ingredient with limited use in cosmetics applications. Various types of calcium silicates differ significantly in morphology, allowing both porous and non-porous types to be produced synthetically.

Highly porous calcium silicate is an inorganic sponge that is an effective absorbent in cosmetic applications. By manufacturing under tightly controlled conditions, it is synthesized from lime and silica to yield a porous amorphous aggregate.

The unique structure of the Calcium silicate particles allows them to absorb lipids at the skin's surface,, reducing oiliness and shine. It is a fine white powder with high oil absorption ability and low bulk density. It is mildly hydrophilic and readily incorporated into aqueous cosmetics. Because the high absorbency of the particles allows them to absorb oily materials, they can be incorporated into non-aqueous systems easily.

Calcium silicate offer solutions for facial shine and oil break-through in facial makeup preparations and for control of excess sebum in cosmetic skincare and dermatological anti-acne preparations. The clinical studies reported that it is clinically superior to current technologies and helps formulators to differentiate "claims and reality" in this important applications area.
