Shikonin Seed Oil (Lithospermum Officinale Seed Oil) is cold-pressed from Gromwell seeds of both wild and cultivated plants from the Boraginaceae (Borage) family. It is known in the Chinese traditional medicine under the name Zi Cao.

Lithospermum Officinale Seed Oil typically contains 13.3% g-linolenic acid, 30.2% a-linolenic acid and 21.2% linoleic acid, making it an interesting alternative to evening primrose and borage oils.

Lithospermum Officinale Seed Oil was used as an anti-inflammatory remedy in traditional Chinese medicine. Shikonin Seed Oil also increases epithelial cell growth.
