Clary Sage Oil is a natural essential oil derived from the fresh or dried flowering plant Salvia Sclarea. It is an aromatic edible oil used topically for its anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties.

Clary Sage (Salvia Sclarea), native to southern Europe, but cultivated worldwide, especially in the Mediterranean region, is a stout biennial or perennial herb up to 3ft (1m) high with large, hairy leaves, green with a hint of purple, and small blue flowers.

Historically valued by the Egyptians and Greeks for its reputed ability to relax the nerves and improve memory, Clary Sage oil is most often used as a fixative in perfume blends, adding a lavender-like note. Thanks to its high content of the diterpene alcohol Sclareol, Salvia Sclarea Oil possesses multiple beneficial effects, useful for skin, nail, hair, and oral care applications, as well as aromatherapy.

Commonly referred to as "clear eye", the sticky solution derived from clary seeds has long been used to rid the eyes of foreign matter and to soothe as a natural demulcent. It also exhibits antibacterial and anti-fungal effects and prevents bacterial biofilm formation.

Salvia Sclarea oil is a safe, effective, and eco-friendly ingredient for personal care products. It is nontoxic, nonirritant, and non-sensitizing, but it has several restrictions. Avoid using preparations with Clary Sage oil during pregnancy and while drinking alcohol, as it can yield a narcotic effect.
